Prof. Ishtiaq Ahmad is the Quaid-i-Azam Fellow at St. Antony’s College, Oxford University, and has published widely on South Asian security, conflict in Afghanistan, US policy towards South Asia and contemporary Muslim world issues. His publications include books such as Gulbuddin Hekmatyar: An Afghan Trail from Jihad to Terrorism (2004) and Nuclear Non-Proliferation Issues in South Asia (1996). He has written for The News International, The Nation and The Friday Times and is currently conducting research on conflict resolution in Afghanistan, exploring theoretical and practical aspects concerning the prospects of reconciliation and regionalism.

Dr. Yunas Samad is Senior lecturer in Sociology and director of the Ethnicity and Social Policy Research Centre (ESPR) at Bradford University. His research interests include Race, ethnicity and multiculturalism in Britain and identity politics. Among many others, he is also the author of many books including “The Pakistan-US Conundrum: Jihadists, the Military and the People-The Struggle for Control”, ” A Nation in Turmoil: Nationalism and Ethnicity in Pakistan 1937-58″ and “Fatal Attraction: Pakistan and the War on Terror”. |

Dr. Adeel Malik, obtained his DPhil in Economics from Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar in 2004 and is the Oxford Islamic Centre Lecturer in Development Economics. Dr Malik is a Globe Fellow in the Economies of Muslim Societies at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies and a Research Associate of the Centre for the Study of African Economies. His research focuses on exploring the causes and consequences of economic fluctuations in developing countries. His recent research has also looked at the comparative role of geography, trade and institutions in driving long-run development outcomes. He has just successfully completed an Economic and Social Research Council project on investment, institutions and growth.

Mr. Ahmed Nawaz Wattoo is a distinguished lawyer based in London and UK convenor of the Workers’ Party Pakistan (WPP). He has, for many years, been involved with progressive politics in Pakistan and during his student days, Mr. Wattoo was deeply involved in student unions, politics and activism. He has previously served General Secretary of the National Students Federation (NSF) Punjab and was involved in democratic struggle against the military dictatorship of General Zia-ul-Haq. He will bring his expertise in the area of student unions and politics into our discussions in the Interior Affairs Committee. |
